“How to setup the header widgets?”

  • Ruben's FAQ
After i've setup the theme and imported the demo files i noticed that the header is empty. How can i add the social icons and text that are seen in the demo?

You need to add the widgets into their proper place. Go to Appearance > Widgets and in the left you'll see a list of widgets while in the right you'll see a list of default widget areas. Somewhere down the page you'll see the Header first widget area in which i have (in the demo) the:

    • RB Email Widget
    • RB Phone Widget

Below it there is the Header second widget area in which there is a shortcode:

    • Text Widget with the following content: [rb_social type="icons" twitter="#" dribbble="#" linkedin="#" facebook="#" cloud="#" rss="#" width="1/1" el_position="first last"]

This social widget can be configured by putting a social widget with the icons type in any page. Just configure the widget as you wish, than paste it here.

The footer widgets are most done with shortcodes, which are entered into simple text widgets. The two sets of widgets presented in the demo are:

       1. Footer first widget area:

    • A simple text widget
    • A custom newsletter widget: wisija in the demo

       2. Footer second wideget area:

    • Meta links
    • Text widget with the following shortcode: [rb_custom_posts type="commented" no="3" width="1/1" el_position="first last"]

       3. Footer third widget area:

    • Text widget with the following shortcode: [rb_flickr id="49598046@N00" no="12" width="1/1" el_position="first last"]
    • Text widget with the following shortcode: [rb_custom_posts type="popular" no="3" width="1/1" el_position="first last"]

       4. Footer third widget area:

    • Text widget with the following shortcode: [rb_cinfo address="Jacky George St. 158-56,
      EastLondon, NF1561, UK" phone="+460 123 456 789" mail="hello@showcase.me" map="#" map_text="Find us on the map" width="1/1" el_position="first last"]
    • Text widget with the following shortcode: [rb_form type="minimal" label_name="Name" label_email="Email" label_subject="Subject Here!" label_message="Message" label_send="Send" email="your_email@domain.com" success="Your message was successfully sent! We will contact you back as soon as possible!" width="1/1" el_position="first last"]

Keep in mind that you can insert any shortcodes you want inside text widgets and put them in the footer. You can even have a portfolio here :)

The bottom footer has a custom menu and some text.

Could you please tell me how to create this bottom footer menu?

    1:11 on May 14, 2013

  • Ruben Bristian

The bottom footer menu is a basic custom menu widget.. All possible shortcodes are available in the visual composer and you can also read about them inside the manual..

Thanks for the post on this, I was looking how to sort the footer.

All the short codes work well apart from the Flickr one?

I have my id (and even tried your id posted) but nothing renders? [rb_flickr id="27752478@N08" no="12" width="1/1" el_position="first last"]

    Any ideas Ruben?

Are you sure that the id is correct? Please use http://idgettr.com/ to get your correct id, and please note that you can only use usernames, not groups or sets or stuff like that.

Hello. I couldn't find it exactly but can the social sharing be up top too? What's the proper text to put in the text box? I could only do the social icons. THX!

    1:11 on September 30, 2013

  • Ruben Bristian

Yes, the social sharing can be up to. I cannot write all shortcodes here for you. You can find any shortcode text by switching froom the Visual Composer to the Classic View after creating your shortcode,.

Thanks for fielding this, but I'm a bit confused. I do not see these in the documentation, are some shortcoded wordpress specific and some theme or plugin specific? How to I find out simply what the syntax is so I can update the code to suit my needs?

You can add shortcodes in a dummy page via the Visual Composer, then switch to the Classic View and you'll see the proper code. Add that in the widgets areas..

Can you help me with an icon for Google Plus?

    1:11 on November 22, 2013

  • Ruben Bristian

What help do you need? I'm pretty sure that there's an icon in the package. Just do what i've written above..

I need the code for that icon. For example, the code for Facebook icon is "facebook". But what is the code for Google Plus?

    1:11 on November 25, 2013

  • Ruben Bristian

Use the Visual Composer to create a social widget, add your own social icons there, then turn to Classic Editor to see the exact shortcode text!

  • Nicolae Stavre

    Yes, it worked! Thanks! :)

Does anybody know where the rb_social shortcode "code" is located in the theme or the WP install?  I've been looking, but cannot find it.

    1:11 on December 2, 2013

  • Ruben Bristian

It's in the Visual Composer plugin - /plugins/js_composer/config/shortcodes-front.php

I've got the icons in the header, but how do you link them to my facebook profile etc.

    1:11 on January 22, 2014

  • Ruben Bristian

    Replace # with your link.

Is there a way to get them to open in a new window ?

    1:11 on January 23, 2014

  • Ruben Bristian

Hi, is possibile to set the same sidebar for all pages/post, without add manually in every post or page?

    1:11 on November 19, 2014

  • Ruben Bristian

    Nope, this is not possible.

Actually, all posts do share the same sidebar, the blog's sidebar.
